Michael Ferreira Heyns (#4002)

Michael was born in 1946 in Potchefstroom. Michael is artist who takes elements from life and creates oil paintings and mixed media drawings from it. He has several well-known series namely: ‘Seeds, Flowers and Fruits’, ‘Butterflies’, ‘Figures and Pierrots’, ‘Dénims’ and ‘Portraits of Torsos’. He studied at the University of Pretoria between 1964 and 1967 under Gunther van der Reis and Jean Beeton and gained a BA (FA). Michael is a member of the SAAA and a designer of warp-painted tapestries, woven by his wife, Susan. He has participated in over 60 group exhibitions from 1967 in South Africa and the first of over 20 solo exhibitions was held in South Africa in 1981, at the Republic Festival Exhibition. He was also awarded with the Painting Prize in 1967, as well as the New Signatures and the South Africa Wool Board Design Prize in 1980. Michael represented a few art galleries over the years like the Potchefstroom Art Museum, University of Bophuthatswana and the University of Pretoria.
