Ananda (#6208)
Ananda Meyer was born 20 January 1970 in Durban, where she matriculated and was awarded a bursary to study art at the University of Natal. After studying art and psychology she started painting part time at first, later committing to a full time career as an artist. Her medium is oil on canvas. She draws inspiration from old masters, sculptors and contemporary artists like Picasso, Giocometti, Calder, Henry Moore and her parents which are both well known South African artists (Hentie & Sonja Meyer). Ananda paints with bold shapes and illuminating colours to express a feeling rather than just to illustrate. Her intention is to engage the onlooker with the essence of the subject and to invoke emotion, at the same time creating something visually appealing and decorative.
